Orange and Honey Tea Bread

yum.. time for a change.. no cakes no muffins

this time tea bread...

here's the recipe

385g plain flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
30g butter/margarine
250ml clear honey
1 egg, at room temp., lightly beaten
1 1/2 tablespoons grated orange rind
175ml freshly squeezed orange juice
115g walnuts, chopped (i added raisins instead)

Preheat oven at 170 C / 325 F

Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

Line the bottom and sides of a 9 x 5" (23 x 13cm) loaf tin with greaseproof paper and grease.

With an electric mixer, cream the butter/margarine until soft. stir in the honey until blended, then stir in the egg. Add the orange rind and stir to combine thoroughly

Fold the flour mixture into the honey and egg mixture in 3 batches, alternating with the orange juice. Stir in the walnuts.

Pour into the tin and bake until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean, 60-70 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before turning out onto a rack to cool.

15 minutes passed..

30 mins later...

almost almost .. 15 minutes more..

yay.. 1 hour later.. :P

bread
yummmyyy

mm.. to say that it's 100% a bread.. i dont think so..
cause there isnt any yeast in the recipe.. but well
it tasted like bread-cake..
there's abit of bitter taste maybe because of the orange rind..
i've used orange rinds quite a number of times before and it always gives me a bittery after-taste...

and em.. there wasnt alot of orange taste... maybe next time i should get the juice thru the machine.. rather than using my hands to squeeze them.. not much different ain't it?
maybe i should try on peel-fresh ? hrm.. i dont know ..

the honey was somehow an alternative for the sugar.. so this tea-bread is not sweet but yet u can taste a lil bit of honey and ti's not stale... ahahah

alright...

ciao

Kopitiam Style Part Two

Ms Melisa has posted the part one of kopitiam style shop in Ipoh, Ms Yeemei is here to post an entry of Kopitiam Style Restaurant in Bukit Tinggi, Klang.

Ms Yeemei went lunch-ing with Ms Sweesan one fine afternoon at Pak Li located in Bukit Tinggi Klang.

Interior of Pak Li

After eating half way through, we suddenly remember that we should take a picture

We also ordered Fried Rice

Well, the bread was rather small.. i mean really small. We expected it to be bigger but it turned out...expectedly small. Probably too small for our appetite. My advise is order extra set of toast. Oh ya, the bread is brownish in color probably bcoz its made of coffee.

About the fried rice, its not salty enough. We ordered because it looks so nice from the photo posted in the shop but you know, pictures can be rather deceiving. Anyway, the rice was aint that bad. Add more salt..then it would be better~

Credits given to the interior. I like the wall! Feel as though you are back to the 60s~

No more already...aih!

Let me show you something different from the typical 'tau sar pheah' you normally buy from Penang. This is different! As much as i love the original 'tau sar pheah', i think the new-face pandan flavour 'tau sar pheah' is very nice. Even better than the original one.

It looks like the same old 'tau sar pheah' but deep inside, it tastes alot nicer!

Let me bite and show you. There, its abit greenish...if you look hard enough..

In case, you want to try also. There...this is the packaging!

According to my mama, there are also other flavours like cappucino, chocolate and bla bla but i haven try them yet coz my mama didnt buy back from Penang.

So if you happen to go Penang, please get me a box of the Pandan flavour 'tau sar pheah' also coz i finished mine at home already! *so sad*

My ambition is to be 'Siew Lai Lai'

In case you do not understand what 'Siew Lai Lai' means, let me give you a simple lesson here. 'Siew Lai Lai' in cantonese means a rich man's wife; it means marrying a rich man and live in a big house with maids serving you and your daily activities would be shopping and dining in nice restaurant, travelling around the world and playing 'Mahjong' with fellow 'Siew Lai Lai', do hair in saloons. Sounds happy right but this is not fairytale so wake up! hahhaa..

Anyway, back to the point.

Alright, this entry is about a shop named 'Siew Lai Lai' in Bukit Tinggi. What a funny name right? Yup...and wonder what they got over there?
They have a variety of food. Well, how should i properly regard them *mmm mmm*? You know, those lil lil food like egg tarts, 'siew pao', 'lou poh peng' n the list goes on.

Anyway, i only tried the 'lou poh peng' --> means Wife Cake! hahhaa... the infamous Wife Cake you heard over the media and i think most probably originated from HongKong?
Have you watch the Hongkong TVB drama series...about this guy who suddenly became retard but loves his wife sooo dearly and he created this 'Wife Cake'? and yes, this is the cake!

  da infamous 'lou poh peng'

da red bean version of 'lou poh peng'

Overall, both the 'cakes' are nice. Really! Its not too sweet and the size is just nice for you to have another piece. Probably, you should try oso....Heard that the egg tarts are good, according to Ms Sweesan...right?

Carrot Cupcake with Cream Cheese Frosting

2nd cupcake attempt..

i ran out of chocolates..
and merely 200g of cream cheese..

so... i made.. carrot cupcakes instead.. :P

carrot mixture

here's the recipe..

3 Cups peeled grated carrots, ends removed (1 lb.)
2 Cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
4 large eggs
2 Cups granulated white sugar
3/4 Cup vegetable oil
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 Cup chopped nuts or raisins (optional)

Frosting:
1/3 Cup cream cheese
1/4 Cup butter (1/2 stick)
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
2 Cups powdered sugar

i reduced the amount of sugar to 50% ...

Preheat oven to 325°. Line muffin tins with paper cupcake cups. Peel carrots, chop off ends, and grate finely, which is easiest using a food processor. Sift flour, cinnamon, salt, baking soda and baking powder together, set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs until well blended. Add sugar, oil, carrots, and pure vanilla extract, mix well at medium speed. Add flour mixture and nuts or raisins (if desired). Blend on low speed until just mixed, spoon into cupcake cups, about 3/4 full. Place the pans in the preheated oven, bake for 12 minutes. Switch the pans so the pan from the lower rack is now on the upper rack, and bake for 12 more minutes. Check for doneness–cupcakes should be browned and springy to the touch. Let cool completely before frosting.

To prepare frosting: let cream cheese and butter come to room temperature. Blend thoroughly with pure vanilla extract, then beat in the powdered sugar at low speed. Add food coloring if desired; it gives the frosting a nice spreading consistency. If you don’t use food coloring, add a drizzle of milk to make the frosting spread more easily if desired.

Yield: 24 cupcakes.

i made 28

carrot cupcake
lets play dressing up... get some naked cupcakes..

cream cheese frosting
then.. add some cream cheese frosting

carrot cupcake with cream cheese frosting
then sprinkle some chocolate rice as decorations :)

then .. indulge ~!!

ok.. i didnt add any nuts or raisins cause i couldnt find any.. so i just left it with grated carrots..
i ddint add much sugar so it wasnt that SWEET..
this time the cake rise..
and yeah.. the texture's quite dense.. but the creamcheese frosting probably went alil bit.. wet.. maybe i dint add enough icing sugar..

yeah... this cupcakes cute..!!
ahhaha

ciao peeps
xoxo

gone fishing

at Manhattan Fish Market!

we went to the one in sunway pyramid
it was my first time dining out in MFM anyway.. haha

it's a family seafood restaurant offering casual western and continental ocean cuisine..
so.. we order some stuffs tho...

they had a new dish... called Popcorn shrimps.
popcorn shrimps

well this popcorn shrimp is really alot !! and the sauce was nice.. em..
it's nice.. but er.. the shrimps cut into small small pieces..

then we ordered Garlic Butter Mussels as appetizer
garlic butter mussels

this was reccomended by ling.. cause she ate before and she said it was nice..
yeah.. quite good.. the sauce was buttery and nice... but the bread.. yucks... it's hard...
and if the dish was a lil hotter.. it'd be great..

i've eaten the mussel clams in Osaka (japanese restaurant) and that's nicer.. my opinion lah..

then i ordered the Manhattan Favourites Grilled Norwegian King Salmon

with chips.. yeah.. hahaha... should have ordered the rice cause after i ordered chips.. ling said the rice is nice.. but anyway.. nvm..
the salmon's nice.. the sauce not bad too .. tasted a lil bit like the garlic butter mussels sauce.. but the amout of sauce wasn't enough..

(yeah .. for a person that can eat 2 bowls of dahl along maggi goreng. i think the sauce they gave me wasn't enough... )

then ling ordered.. super-sinful Sweet Alabama Smoothie
chocolate smoothie

that's chocolate vanilla and peanut butter smoothie... *gosh* !!!!!
and .. OI !!! LING !!!! why la the pic ...
got ..... censored leh .!!!!!
but this drink .. has more peanut butter taste..

anyway... i still have yet to try alot of dishes in Manhattan Fish Market
so.. i'll still go again.. ahah
