yesterday mum said her throat isn't feeling right..felt like she was going to fall sick..so she headed to the kitchen to boil her "miracle drink" granny's ginger drink.. this is not any of those tongkat ali stuff just incase you are wondering..just some grandma's recipe which is quite beneficial to one's body..kinda like keeps the body warm..regulate blood flows..brings out those trapped air in the body..mum says its a vitalising drink..so it's up to you to try and believe..
so the recipe is really simple..
ingredients..
*500g of ginger
* 1litre of water
* brown sugar @ gula melaka
methods..
1. pound those gingers a little just that break 'em up and set aside.
![]() ![]() 2. put the water to boil.
3. place ginger into boiling water and continue to boil for an hour.
4. after an hour and the ginger aroma can be sensed..add it brown sugar @ gula melaka to taste.
5. leave to boil for another 10 mins or so for the sugar to melt and it's ready to be serve.
Note: Serve while it's hot..
yesterday was a pretty cold night..so after taking a few cups of this ginger drink..it felt really good..mum on the other hand..couldnt stop burping and was making frequent trips to the loo.. so..would you try?? |
We found KLUANG STATION in 1-Utama..not too long ago..yeaps..the train station's cafe that is..yet another kopitiam-style eatery which incorporates a pinch of train station's decor into the cafe/kopitiam..gosh its getting really difficult to categorized these makan places now days... The cafe's design or layout does not boast creativity, it's just very simple..the main colour for the walls are white, and the cashier area had this wire fence thingy..lets just say it pretty much gave me an impression of a police station rather than a train station..The few clues that gave us some ideas that we were actually in a station were some images of rail tracks on the wall.. Back to food matters..The cafe offers a rather simple menu..which is good in a way..at least you dont have to scratch your head for too long..the food are pretty much local and kopitiam delicacies..from hot and cold drinks like coffee, limau ais, teh tarik to toasts, rice and nooddles..
So here are some of the stuff that we feast upon... The currypuff came alil cold (not warm) and a bit pricy for its size..but overall its edible..hehe
![]() my plain nasi lemak
The nasi lemak was great..just nice..the sambal tasted unique..very aromatic..hehe..and the chicken.yum yum..it was a rather big portion..smooth..tender..juicy..i should have order the one with chicken too..
Bravo..bravo..definitely a must try if you are there..
![]() d kaya n butter toast What's going to a kopitiam or cafe without trying the toast..it's the best way to find for the best..however, i have to say that the toast here is not very impressive..the bread itself was rather cold and rubbery..no usual crisp..we tasted more butter than kaya..n the butter doesnt melt in your mouth..that's abit of a disapponiment..
All in, it's quite a good spot to get a quick bite and rest those tired legs after the first half of your shopping session..hehe..n when the tummy is full n the legs energized..its time to shop again.. |

you've heard of Kim Gary everywhere in Klang Valley, you've seen Mongkok 1-u and ss2 you know there's Central in Klang, seremban n Sg Long and there're more of it.. now let's introduce a second Char Chan Teng in Klang. it;'s called Yuen Long those are places' name in Hong Kong, actually. so, hong kong food! so this Yuen Long is located at the old Restaurant Taman Rasnah in Klang. they serve those HK food.. cheese baked rice, french toast, nissin noodle.. heaps.. we've actually been there before and we tried out quite some food d. this time around, we ordered ![]() baked rice with twin sauce with fish fillet mel said it was nice and it's similar to one of the same restaurants in TTDI. it was fried rice at the bottom, topped with bolognese sauce and creamy mushroom sauce. ![]() ying yong toast this is a 'kopitiam' food. it's toasted bread with kaya and butter. but... failed, i dont really like it. because there wasn't much butter. they kinda like spread the butter and toast it, instead of toasting the bread, add kaya and a piece of butter. that's the tastiest way to make ying yong toast. i dont know, i think i tasted some peanut butter in it... :P ![]() ribenna lemon yeah, look at it. we made it the Ribena Twin Tower Lemon Drink.. AHHAHA the bottle was vase-like. we concluded that it's ice blended sprite with ribena and a slice of lemon on top. (don't so kiam siap lah... give more la) so well maybe next time u can try this at home.. it's really easy i think.. the price's quite reasonable, as the baked rich with twin sauce is only RM12. compared to other char chan teng.. it;s cheaper. and they have quite a variety of drinks with funny looking *photos in phone quality* p/s : this place has nicer food than in Central's.. |

Right after my orange shortbread, i head towards the bakery shop again to get more ingredients to initiate Project 2 of the day. Project 2 = Sponge cake with Cream Corn Filling The sponge cake was soft of coz because it was sponge cake and sponge cake ought to be soft. Cream corn was of coz yummy because it was manufactured finely. I was not quite satistied with the appearance. Probably due to my laziness...I like to make simple things with simple appearance. Probably because i suddenly found that making cookie is more fun bcoz you can use different cookie cutters~ Most of all, i couldnt use cookie cutter with my sponge cake filled with cream corn. Anyway, my cuppy cakes are still edible! and safe!
My small cousin actually dug a hole in the cuppy cake to eat the cream corn and left the cake looking like a donut! Gosh... Anyway, there is no precise recipe for this sponge cake with cream corn filling because i simply mix and match. I guess i shall improve on my recipe with enhanced appearance before i publish 'my' recipe. You stay here and wait! |
I missed cookie swap! *sob sob* I wanted to join the craze too but i was busy with my intensive chemistry tuition class preparation. You see, im a part time tutor... Anyway, i made orange shortbread today. Its good~ My grandmama said i can sell them! ahAahaa... since they are quite pretty...well, i think they are innocent looking...
Sweesan...Mel...where are you? come come...test test....fast fast before everyone finishes them! Anyway, they are up for sales too! Cheap cheap~ Recipe: Description: This is really simple! try it out!! Ingredients: 100g butter 50g sugar 1 tbsp orange juice Zest of 1 orange, finely grated 170g flour 20g cornflour Directions: Cream butter and sugar till light.
