egg mousse tarts..

couple of days back..i bought my first official recipe book..haha(who would've thought that i would buy a recipe book in the 1st place)..after the unsuccessful apple pie incident..i vowed to learn make a decent pie..haha..and so that explains the book..Alex Goh's Irresistible Pastry..im keeping my fingers crossed so that i wont turn them into Mel's Disastrous Pastry..haha

there're genorous number of pastry recipes which look really tempting..so today, after i've gathered up my courage and ingredients to make the simplest of all in the book..Egg Mousse Tarts..(with me around, even the simplest thing can go wrong)

ingredients..
Pastry
`200g flour
`100g butter
2 tsps parsley, finely chopped
60g water

egg mousse
3 hard boiled eggs
25g mayonnaise
some parsley, finely chopped
salt, paprika n pepper to taste

method...
1.Pastry: mix butter n flour until crumbly. add in chopped parsley and water. mix to form dough. shape it into a ball and press it flat.wrap wit plastic and refrigerate for 30 mins.
2.roll out the pastry btw two sheets of plastic wrap to 3mm thickness. cut wit 2inch round cutter and place the cut-outs in a greased pan.
3.pick the pastry with fork and bake at 190C for 15mins or until golden.leave it to cool.
4.Egg Mousse:mash the eggs finly and mix it with mayo, salt, paprika n pepper until well blended.
5.place the filling into piping bag. pipe on top of pastry n decorate with parsley.

i think my dough is once again too soft..but  was pretty impressed with how the pastry turn out..

golden stars..its not biscuit..its pastry..

trouble spells as usual when i was making the egg mousse..to my horror the mayo i hav at home had expired!!!so bro came to the rescue..by buying me a bottle of mayo..then, there's also the nozzle glitch..i guss the egg was still alil chunky..so it cant get pass the nozzle..and the topping turn out not as appealing..i wonder if i should have blended em or sumthing...

oops..blur pic..my egg mousse tarts..

this is what it should look like..damn..such huge difference..

what's this?

There was still a lil dough left after i was done..so the solution of not wasting it results to the above outcome..hahaha...i didnt have enough egg mousse..so i drowned it with honey and swallowed them myself..hahaha..surprisingly, it's much tastier this way...haha..

I am stil so far away from having some cullinary skills in me..rate my disaster will you?

Im not giving up!!!

maggi goreng

hey yo.. it's been some time since i cooked something which is not dessert.

i like mamak's maggi goreng. sometimes when i'm at home, i'll cook maggi goreng.. hehe. this time, i didnt have the curry flavour maggi mee, but i had some korean maggi mee, kimchi flavoured. so assuming its spicy, i ddint wan to make it soupy.. cause it'll be darn spicy.. so i decided to goreng it.

First, boil water, add in the instant noodle till done. drain it and put aside.

some ingredients, crab stick, carrots and taugeh.. if u have any other veges like cabbage / spinach that u like, u can add in ..

next, heat the pan, pour in some oil, add garlic and onions. sautee it till just done, add in carrots and crab stick (or veges that u think will take a longer time to cook)

add in drained instant noodle, and also the instant curry powder. mix it well.. add in taugeh, and break an egg into it..

scramble the eggs till well mixed.. serve it right away...

and u can top up with a telur mata kerbau if u like  Tongue

Weekend Dog Blogging #14 (with a twist)

yup.. with a twist

this time, the dog must be eating something or posing with a food..

and the most creative entry wins a new spanking cookbook

so.. actually i wasnt like really free this week to snap any photos of mr. hugo, so i went to look back some of his photos that i took during his birthday, and did a simple collage.

so in the first picture, he's quite curious about the candle thing. because the first time he 'played; with fire was when he's a few months old, maybe about 2-3 months. he walked to the altar (on the ground).. and he accidentally burnt his 'whiskers' ... i dont know if it's called whiskers.. Tongue and he probaby freaked out and didnt play with fire anymore. so this time, i guess he must have forgotten about it..

in the 2nd picture, i think he really was too greedy, he tried to lick the cream on top of the cake, he accidentally blew it off.. and that's when he blew off his birthday cake candle.

in the 3rd pic, after blowing it off, he started to lick the cake and all. i took off the candle and ... he munched the upper part of the cake first ...

and by the way, that was his birthday cake Big Smile

Chocolate Banana Cake

This is my very own version of chocolate banana cake. There is no chocolate chocolate topping or any cream sandwich between the cakes. This is my spontaneous creation after indulging a couple of banana in a Saturday afternoon after the half day of work.

Since there was no whipping cream at home, i neglected the cream part and used the brownies recipe for my cake but i modified the recipe abit and added banana too.

First of all, i melted the cooking chocolate and this was how it looked like.

Then, i beat the eggs and sugar till its fluffy.

Then, i mixed the chocolate and the egg mixture.

Of course, i have to add flour as well.

Then, this was how it looked like in the baking mould. I arranged the banana slices on top.

The banana slices got burnt but the cake still turned out yummy. How could chocolate be wrong right? Chocolate is always delicious and tempting.

Oh, by the way, i added banana slices in the cake as well. Although the banana slices on the top were burnt , they were not bitter. Whereas the banana slices in the cake were still moist and rather fresh.

Omg, i forgot...i am not supposed to indulge on too much fatty food at the moment. Shhh....i'll try to remember tomorrow... Wink

During our 'diet' meal...

Since work started, i started gaining weight. I do not know why but my working pants are getting tight. So, i guess, i should reduce supper-ing because to stop supper completely sounds impossible. Reduce or cut down supper would be a better option. Hehe..

Look at what we've got for our dinner... hehe... our very 'dietic' dinner since Jiamin (my uni mate) and myself gained weight after we started working. Jiamin gained x kg and i gained *2* kg. *shake head*

Please guess our dinner...???

Well, its Earthquake! Yes, Swensen's Earthquake! Sorry, we couldnt resist Earthquake. It was a Tuesday and there's 50% off every Tuesday for Earthquake treat in Swensen. But, since there was no rice, we considered Earthquake as our diet dinner. Instead of eating rice and well, rice is not supposed to go with rice, we ordered Fries. Haha..There were 8 scoops of ice-cream! Haha...for the two of us...and we are ice-cream lovers. You know what, Anderson's ice creams are really good!!! Check it out! and the NewZealand ice cream in 1-U and Ikano, which i've forgotten the name, has very good hazelnut ice-cream! Yummy! Let's not divert the topic. Back to Swensen. I love the Sticky Chocolate and Strawberry and the Lime Sherbet and the Cookie n Cream and Chocolate Malt and everything. Haha....

Look at how satisfied we were....Haha...*tomorrow only diet lar...tomorrow Earthquake got no more 50%... so tomorrow we will kurang makan 2-bijik rice* Wink

^sorry for the poor quality photos. they were only 1 megapixel. what do you expect? a hp camera!^

Sweetcorn Pudding

This entry is supposed to be up a week ago but due to my procastination, this entry is delayed.

By the way, this sweetcorn pudding was made by me after work. I dont know why but suddenly i have the craving for sweetcorn. Haha..*drop the details*

Let's see how it goes. Sorry, i couldnt give you the recipe coz i dont even know what i've used and how much i've added. Whatever i see in my kitchen, i just dumped everything in the pot. Well, provided the ingredients are needed for the pudding.

First, boil the syrup. Not too much of sugar! *blurp blurp blurp* haha..not burping! its the water boiling sound effect!

Then, add 'gula melaka' to make the gula melaka layer underneath the sweet corn layer. Look....the layer goes this way......

Looking ok right? Next, proceed to the upper layer. Boil the sugar syrup again and add cream corn.

Opps, i forgot to remind you that you should add agar agar powder in the lower layer as well as the upper layer too. Hehe...sorry for my clumsiness!

Then, top up with the sweet corn layer.

Chill it and cut to serve!

Ta Da....! *Mission Accomplished*

Yam Wheels

yes, it's Yam Shortbread Pinwheels

the past SHF/IMBB Cookie Swap, there's this entry by Do You Know The Muffin Man. He did this Peppermint Pinwheels.. which were really cute. actually i voted him for the cookie swap thingy. and he's one of the 12 winners too!!

ha. i dint do Peppermint, but instead i tried with Yam

here's the original Recipe

here's my version

1 cup butter
2/3 cup icing sugar
1 tbsp vanilla essence
1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 cup rice flour all purpose flour
(i dont know whats rice flour)
1 tsp yam essence
1/2 tsp food colouring

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • Cream together butter and sugar. Mix in vanilla and flours.
  • Divide into two equal parts. Then one of the part, divide half
  • Add yam extract and food colouring to one. Mix well, until dough turns to the desired colour.
  • On a sheet of wax paper, roll out coloured portion to 12 × 14 inches (30 × 35 cm). Repeat with white dough.
  • Invert white layer over the colour layer. Remove top layer of wax paper.
  • Roll from short end with edges remaining even. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 4 hours.
  • Slice 1/3-inch (8 mm) thick and place 2 inches (5 cm) apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake 15-17 minutes. Cool on rack.

    Surpriseeh!! mickey mouse!?!?

    !!! Surprise sushi roll !?!??!?!

the first time i cut it apart, it's not really chilled yet.. so i put into the fridge again

    cut cut cut cut...

after bakin in the oven for about 15 -17 minutes..

Yam Shortbread Pinwheels. i think it's too thick.. so maybe next time i will roll thinner... tsk

Vanilla Shortbread Pinwheels. i think if this was green tea flavoured then it would be nice.. tsk tsk

so.. i guess this would be one of the cookies for Chinese New Year !! yahoooo

but, the yam flavouring wasnt strong enough. next time i should add more. it smelled good before baking, but after that, it became a normal butter shortbread.. heheh

and.. need to roll the mixture thinner.. so that it swirls more.. :P

    xoxo

p/s:oh yeah, if u actually noticed, i've arranged the links and recipes in categories.. better isnt' it ??
